Your hardware does the indexing and searching, so serving you costs us nothing, and there's no cloud bill to pass on to you. Free forever isn't a promotion; it's what zero marginal cost makes possible. Second, the relationship: this is our first tool for the creator community. We're giving it away so you'll use it every day, talk to us, tell us what's missing, and shape what we build next. Some of what we build later will be paid. Splayed won't be.

No. Splayed runs only on Apple Silicon Macs for now. Indexing your whole library on-device takes more horsepower than phones and tablets can offer today.
